Cowseagan Cottage
Westport, ME
2007
Contegiacomo designed this modern, bent-bar shaped residence in response to the diurnal movements of the sun, Cowseagan Bay microclimates, client program and traditional Japanese house design. The structure is oriented east-west with a cantilevered roof that gestures to the high cliff on its south side and opens to the serene water to the north. Its bent shape scoops up the morning and evening sun when it is needed most. Circulation along its east-west access allows the house to unfold like a book, enabling unexpected surprises along the way.
